Skin Biopsy at Precision Dermatology in Kerrville TX
Accurate Diagnosis for Moles, Skin Growths & Skin Conditions
Most moles and skin growths are harmless, but in some cases a skin biopsy is necessary to rule out skin cancer or other medical conditions. At Precision Dermatology, we perform in-office skin biopsies to help determine whether a mole, lesion, or skin concern is benign or requires further treatment.
Our board-certified dermatologist provides thorough evaluation, clear communication, and compassionate care for patients throughout Kerrville and the Texas Hill Country.
Why a Skin Biopsy May Be Needed
A skin biopsy allows Dr. Lambiase to examine a small sample of skin under a microscope. This helps us determine whether a skin growth is harmless or requires medical treatment.
A biopsy may be recommended to:
-
Rule out skin cancer
-
Evaluate changing or unusual moles
-
Diagnose inflammatory or blistering skin conditions
-
Identify infections or chronic skin diseases
-
Guide appropriate treatment options
While hearing the word “biopsy” can feel concerning, most biopsies are quick, minimally invasive, and performed safely in the office.
Types of Skin Biopsies We Perform
The type of biopsy used depends on the location, size, and appearance of the skin concern.
Shave Biopsy
A shave biopsy uses a medical instrument similar to a razor to remove a small sample from the top layers of the skin. This method is often used for raised or surface-level lesions.
Punch Biopsy
A punch biopsy uses a circular medical tool to remove a deeper sample of skin. This type of biopsy may require stitches and allows evaluation of deeper skin layers.
Excisional Biopsy
An excisional biopsy uses a scalpel to remove an entire lump or area of skin that appears abnormal. This method is commonly used for larger or deeper lesions and typically involves sutures.
